Don't underestimate how much we are all missing UP
Without getting too hysterical I think the atmosphere around the OS at games stems from us all still going through some type of mourning for UP. I still can't believe I wont walk down Barking Rd, have some double double, few beers and feel part of something my family has done for generations.

We really need to create something new but that is genuinely still the old West Ham. What that is don't know yet but we all know what it isn't. Westfield and the surroundings are so far from where we have come from and years away from the working class identity I feel so strongly about.

I miss Upton Park. I want my club back

Re: Don't underestimate how much we are all missing UP
I agree and visiting UP gives me a sense of loss.
If you want a last look at the old ground and to meet other fans, you can be an extra in the movie being made.. I had this email today:

**UPDATE*** Due to a schedule change we now only have one to three more dates left for extras. These are our last days in the stadium before it's taken down and we're looking for extras in West Ham fan gear (set in winter) .

THIS WEEKEND
TBC Saturday 16th September (TIMINGS TBC // 16:00 - 04:00)**
TBC Sunday 17th September (TIMINGS TBC // 15:00 - 05:00)**

NEXT WEEK
Monday 19th September (19:00 - 05:00)**

**Please be aware that it's always possible for the call (start) time to change slightly the day before i.e. if the crew wrap earlier the night before, then the call time has the potential to be brought forward.

NIGHT SHOOTS
Our last shooting days are night shoots. We'd like to you stay until as late as possible, 5am would be great(!), but probably unrealistic for most people. Obviously I realise our shooting hours are pretty brutal, but I'm sure you understand that's how we make movie magic, and for these scenes we need the cover of darkness, so if you are able to stick with us until early the following morning it would be greatly appreciated.

GETTING INVOLVED
If you are available for these dates, and would like to volunteer, please do let me know so I can put you down for filming. Also, If you have friends or family who would be interested in taking part with you do feel free to add their details to your reply or get them to email me directly.

You are kindly asked to confirm that you will be attending by emailing your confirmation to myself at finalscoreextras@gmail.com

It would also be incredibly helpful, if you could let me know what times you think you'd be able to remain with us if not the full amount.

Please also give a description of yourself when you reply - name/age/height/build/hair colour/skin-tone and also of your friends if they can make it too.

Men, women and children of all ages are welcome. Anyone under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult.

In summary in what I need from you then;

Full name and description
Guest names and descriptions
Availability - dates and times

Looking forward to hearing back from you :)

Something new has been created and when you glance at the new badge it's plain to see West Ham London.

History of the new club has began,

You'll get a right cunting over this, but I completely agree with you.

I wanted to head over to the supporters club before Boro at home but then I'd rather have my final memory being the one I had walking away after Man Utd, people still singing bubbles in the ground behind me. I don't want to see it there falling apart with all the signs ripped off. It may be just bricks, mortar and a bit of grass to some but I'm still struggling with it to be fair.

Don't underestimate how not everybody feels the same way.

We have thousands of loyal fans, all with different opinions and emotions. Most of whom cannot relate or refuse to understand how everyone else feels and why.

Re: Don't underestimate how much we are all missing UP
Whether you agree or not. The atmosphere at OS is I believe effected by what we aren't doing ie not doing our usual game routines at UP. Not bothered if I get stick just the way I see it at the mo.

Re: Don't underestimate how much we are all missing UP
Some love the new place.

Some hate it but will tolerate it.

Some like me hate it and will just do away games now.

Some will just fuck it all off completely.

Am sure the atmosphere is just poor at the moment as we've played no one exciting, there's been no exciting football and a large part of the support isn't happy. Will all change in time once the unhappy chappies get used to the new gaff.

Shouldn't this thread be merged with the depression thread?

Re: Don't underestimate how much we are all missing UP
Upton Park will be missed for some years to come, no doubt about that .

I just think it is much too soon to get too sentimental, we have not given the new stadium a chance, add to that it has had some teething problems that to most are minor but to some will be major.

As I have said before Upton Park without the fans is nothing much, The London Stadium is exactly the same we as fans have to come together as one and Support West Ham properly before we look back to what we had before.

Re: Don't underestimate how much we are all missing UP
One thing that we must address is our team are not giving us a chance to create a better atmosphere with the below par performances and results.

If West Ham win three games in a row, watch the atmosphere grow.

Re: Don't underestimate how much we are all missing UP
After they changed the parking regulations near the ground, the pay and display car park at Newham General (my always-guaranteed-to-get a-space place), became rammed full with cars at least a couple of hours before kick off. You had to lurk around (in your car) hoping that someone would come out of the hospital and move so you could park.

That probably pissed me off more than anything else....

Re: Don't underestimate how much we are all missing UP
Upton Park was the North Bank and the South Bank.
The time to mourn was when they put stands on them.
Particularly due to the fact that no one had the long term strategy to shift the ground towards Green St when that happened and develop all 4 sides of the ground into a proper integrated stadium.

We are we are and need to move on from there and make it into SOMETHING.
I think that 'moving on' will be painful , cantankerous and will result in a few more people getting a slap.

Th atmosphere at UP would have been no different for the two games we've had.

There would not have been fights among fans at 2-0 up you absolute bell.

Re: Don't underestimate how much we are all missing UP
No sven, that was the time to mourn for people who knew it then, as people went to the stadium in its various guises it will hold different memories for different people.

As all seater stadiums in the modern era go Upton Park for real ness and atmosphere was one of the best, fans of all clubs admit that.

Except some of our own who obviously see themselves as above that sort of thing and welcome the happy clappy aims of the OS.

Re: Don't underestimate how much we are all missing UP
all the best grounds for atmosphere were the slung together ones ,Goodison ,Cold blow lane ,The baseball ground i could go on , these were proper back street grounds but sadly they are all slowly being replaced for the new breed of "customer" .

Re: Don't underestimate how much we are all missing UP
One of the few real regrets of my life will always be I failed to go to Upton Park when I had the chance pre-Hillsborough.

Still could've been born without arms or legs.
